Melbourne is a city designed without a central public square. Various attempts to build one have been in process since the 60’s. In 2001 Federation Square was completed. It is almost eight acres of open area pavement and modern designed buildings for the arts and public events. Panama Canal, Views from a Cruise Ship
The Panama Canal was completed by the United States in 1914. The French worked on the canal for 13 years, but gave up after they incurred 22,000 deaths and the construction firm went bankrupt. Completed by the USA in 10 years, it is considered one of the seven engineering marvels of the world.

Dubrovnik, Jewel of Croatia
Beautiful turquoise water surrounds the Old Town section of Dubrovnik, Croatia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Only after a severe rain storm the prior day were the waters stirred up enough to create the turbulence for the turquoise water appearance.

Zagreb, Croatia is a pleasant city, numerous parks with lots of flowers and fountains, great restaurants with large pedestrian malls serviced by modern trolleys. The further we get from Bucharest, the better Eastern Europe appears.

London, England (Last Stop)
Having returned the rental car in Cambridge, England we took a train to London and taxi to our VRBO rental. Initial impression and safety appearance of our street seemed somewhat borderline. However, the unit was comfortable and stylish and we soon learned there were many restaurants and much activity nearby. We had Indian food for the fifteenth time in Europe. It is now quite apparent there are not huge variation in Indian food and we certainly have our favorites, but lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala is quite consistent across the US and Europe.

Retired – Leaving Chicago
Our plan worked out as anticipated. We were sad to have left such a nice condo in Chicago with wonderful views, but adventures along RT66 and beyond are ahead. The truck
was packed as full as possible. Here is a picture of our new truck with Chicago in the background. Also, one with it fully packed as we look like the Clampets driving down the highway with all of our belongings. The prior planning of test packing in the living room helped out. Oddly enough, there was enough room for many boxes of golf balls but not the toaster…….
