Penguin Feeding, a Whale of a Tail

Photographs similar to this are the goal of many whale photographers. The whale tail only pops out of the water when the whale is on its way down, diving deep into the ocean to feed on plankton.

The whale tail coming up and out of the water happens much less often than the more common breaking the surface for air and feeding near the surface.  Seeing the tail out of the water like this indicates the whale is diving down deep to feed.  All the photographers set their camera to motor drive and press the shutter down time after time and get no sign of a tail.  One in 20 sightings, or so it seems, result in the whale fluke rising out of the water.

More Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

We were told to not stare back at the gorillas, or make direct eye contact with them….

This was our third and final trek to see the gorillas.  I’m thinking I should take more movies to record the sights AND sounds.  However, I did record them on my phone since some of the sounds were in the dark.  After Uganda we fly on to Kenya where we are supposed to see ‘The Great Migration’.

The Patara Elephant Sanctuary allows you to get up close and friendly with elephants of all sizes.  The sanctuary’s advertisement says you can be an elephant owner for a day.  With the elephants walking around freely, our first task was to scrub the mud from their tough skin, then walk them to a large pond and give them a bath.

Bullfighting would be more likely associated with Madrid, Spain than its architecture.  However, the draw for me was some uniquely designed buildings and staircases.  The bullfights had ended about a month before my arrival.
